Overview

The game was revealed via a cryptic ARG, leading recipients of certain PR e-mails to a teaser site that required the entry of the password “Roman” which lead to a download of a first teaser screenshot showing the scene and victim of a murder. The teaser site revealed PS3, Xbox 360 and PC as the targeted platforms.

Salem Witch Trials?

A week after the initial tease the official Twitter for the game tweeted “Evidence: Salem MA USA”. When entering the password “salemmausa” into the teaser website, a MP3 file playing the sound of glass breaking followed by a loud thump could be heard. The sound file lined up with the initial teaser image of a person lying, presumably, dead next to broken pieces of glass.

In 1692, Salem Massachusetts went through a witch hunt known widely as the Salem Witch Trials. It’s speculated that the game will take place in that time period, or at least in or around Salem.

First Teaser Trailer

On February 19th 2013 the first teaser trailer for the game was shown, ending with the tagline ‘The hardest murder to solve is your own’. It featured a narrator with a gritty voice, presenting a scene where a man draws a gun while falling through broken glass (a window?). A shadowy, hooded figure is also seen pointing a gun. The game also hints paranormal activity, which is presented with a ghost-like figure walking straight through the narrator / protagonist.

No release date was revealed in the teaser.

Shortly after the trailer was released Square Enix announced that the game is scheduled for release in ‘early 2014′. Planned platforms are PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, and Square Enix have not commented on plans for a next-gen release.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is a title currently under development at Square Enix starring Final Fantasy XIII protagonist Lightning. Its title, as well as the basic concepts behind the game’s development, were announced at a special press conference timed to coincide with the celebration of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Final Fantasy series on September 1, 2012 in Japan (August 31, in North America). The game is to conclude her story arc, which was left on a cliffhanger at the end of Final Fantasy XIII-2. It is currently scheduled for a 2013 release in Japan.

Plot

Lightning Returns sees Lightning exploring Novus, a world that is comprised of four islands or continents, each with a different theme. The plot will see Lightning attempt to prevent the end of the world, which will occur in thirteen days. Hope Estheim will also appear, and will assist Lightning by dispensing information through wireless communication. Despite being set so far in the future, Hope and other characters from Final Fantasy XIII-2 are still alive due to a strange influence that has halted people’s aging process.

Gameplay

Character Customization

Lightning, the sole player character in Lightning Returns, can have her appearance customized by the player. This customization aspect will also affect gameplay. To what degree the player can customize Lightning and how the gameplay is affected has not been revealed.

Combat

Lightning Returns will use a variant of the Active Time Battle system, though it won’t be the same as the system that appeared in Final Fantasy XIII or XIII-2. Many specifics of the battle system are not known, aside from the fact that the player will be able to freely move Lightning during battle, and that attacks and techniques are performed by pressing assigned buttons rather than by selecting items from a menu.

World Design and the Flow of Time

Similar to The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, time is always flowing in Lightning Returns, with a set deadline before the end of the world. The game takes place over thirteen days, and each day will span roughly two real-time hours. However, the completion of certain events may add or subtract from the amount of time Lightning has left to complete her objective. It is also being designed with multiple playthroughs in mind, and it may require more than one before the player is able to reach the game’s true ending.

Overview

Scribblenauts Unlimited is a new game for the Wii U, Nintendo 3DS and PC developed by 5th Cell. Players can create any object they want and share them via the Miiverse on the Wii U or Steam Workshop with their friends. It also features cooperative multiplayer. The game was released for the Wii U and 3DS on November 13, 2012. The PC version was released on November 20, 2012 in North America, however the international release was delayed for unspecified reasons until 2013. The game’s 3DS and Wii U versions are being published in Europe by Nintendo with on February 8, 2013.

Story

Maxwell and his sister Lily, two of fourty-two children, are sent out into the world by their explorer parents. Along the road, they come across an old man who is begging for food. The siblings play a prank on the old man by creating a rotten apple, and giving it to him to eat, which enrages the old man, who puts curses on both of them, and turns Lily partially to stone. Maxwell now must gather starites to help his sister return to normal.

Gameplay

Similarly to previous Scribblenauts games, much of the gameplay involves the player creating objects by entering words into Maxwell’s notebook. Unlike previous games, which feature a linear progression through levels, in Scribblenauts: Unlimited, Maxwell is placed into an open world where he must interact with NPCs in order to fragments and starites which in turn open up new areas. Maxwell has a new ability, called star vision, which allows him to see which NPCs offer starites.

Overview

Cities In Motion 2 is a transport management simulation game developed by Colossal Order and published by Paradox Interactive. It is the sequel to 2011′s Cities In Motion and will be released for the PC in Q2 2013. It ditches Colossal Order’s old game engine for the Unity Engine. In Cities In Motion 2, cities do not grow in set patterns like the first game. Instead, players can dictate the growth of the city, by laying down roads and providing adequate transportation capacity to the area. There will also be both cooperative and competitive multiplayer.
